I've left it late to add today's tips but here they are:
5.00 Newbury - Merry Vic 4/1 - 1 pt win
5.45 Sedgefield - Yorkist - 11/4 - 1 pt win

Cheltenham is over - Aintree is just over the hill......
Well Cheltenham Day 4 was a stinker for most punters - as none of the favourite's came in and most the winners were from outside the top 6 in the betting - which generally means the bookies won. Out of the 7 races on Friday, The Punters Prerogative did manage to predict one winner - Brindisi Breeze @ 10/1 - so not a bad return. The bookies may have won the battle but they haven't won the war!!
I was shocked to see Synchronised win the Gold Cup and I think it highlights that Long Run either wasn't as good as we all thought or that he has failed to progress from last years victory. Kauto Star has beaten him twice this season and then he has failed to beat Synchronised and the Giant Bolster home - I don't want to take too much away from AP McCoy & Synchronised as it was a fair result. Both trainer & jockey did well with their preparation to get him firing for the big day and I think most of the punters were blinded by all the Kauto / Long Run hype that they forgot about the rest of the field. However for the National, Synchronised is carrying top weight (11st 10lbs) - and will have to be very lucky & improve a lot to make the final placings, if Jonjo O'neil decides to run him!
The Grand National at Aintree is only a few weeks away and I am going to stick my neck on the line and predict the winner of the National and the possible place horses. This race is traditionally a follow the money race with many horses back from long odds to single figures before the off - therefore spotting the value and backing ante-post has its advantages. I am a firm believer in statistics when it comes to the big races and have compiled some useful hits and tips to remember when selecting your horse at Aintree. Statistics are there to be broken is what some say but I use them a lot when narrowing big runner fields down. The National will have 40 runners so it is vital to cut out the deadwood, so:
On current declarations the field will comprise of 20 horses with 11stone or higher so you can almost cut your options in half. Junior has been leading the betting and currently has 11st 2lb to carry, if as predicted many horses withdraw he will undoubtedly be saddled with even more - removing him from our equation the same with last years winner Ballabriggs who currently has 11st 9lb.
Those that do appeal with favourable weights assigned to them are Shakalakaboomboom & West End Rocker (both with 10st 12lb), and even more appealing is Champion trainers horse Niche Market (10st 5lb) who is almost a stone better off than West End Rocker on the Becher Chase form guide (but he is an 11 year old). Although being 11 years old - he is similar to Amberleigh House the last 11 year old to win the National in that he has raced the course last year and finished a respectable 5th place.
Of the Irish raiders, Prince de Beauchene (10st 6lb) is current leading the betting for the race, and Willie Mullins has On His Own (10st 11lb but is an 8 year old) entered to complete a strong hand. Ted Walsh has another interesting one which swerved Cheltenham last week in Seabass (10st 12lb).
After using the above elimination statistics I have whittled in down to Cappa Bleu, Chicago Grey, Prince de Beauchene, Seabass & West End Rocker of the horses with in the declared runners so far. However, I am almost certain that Welsh National Champion Le Beau Bai will get in to run and I really liked the way he ran at Chepstow back in January. Also his last effort when 3rd to Giles Cross at Haydock form is looking good too - unfortunately for Giles Cross he needs 21 horses to drop out to get a run. If and when Le Beau Bai gets in to the race his price is likely to tumble and will start less than 16/1 - so my advice is to find a bookie who is Non Runner No Bet on the National and back him each way.
When backing in a big field - I would always like to have statistics on my side - so ignore these at your peril.
Cappa Bleu - 20/1 @ Ladbrokes
Chicago Grey - 25/1 @ Ladbrokes
Prince de Beauchene - 10/1 @ Ladbrokes
Seabass - 20/1 @ Ladbrokes
West End Rocker - 20/1 @ Ladbrokes

2 days left to beat the bookie...
Well after Sprinter Sacre went in on the first day the bookmakers must have feared the worst and could see Tuesday 13th March becoming Black Tuesday - however, the clouds and fog over Cheltenham have cleared and the sun has definitely been shining on them for the best part of the week. But we are only at half time in the match and there is plenty of value to be had today.
Today is the shortest card of the festival with only 6 races coming up - but the first race looks a cracker and the field isn't too big either. Peddlers Cross swerved Sprinter Sacre in the Arkle and headed for this Grade 2 Listed Jewson Novices Chase, it looked a wise move after being beaten by him at Kempton last, and the way Sprinter Sacre hosed up here on Tuesday. That doesn't put me off Peddlers one iota and he normally runs his race around Cheltenham but the Irish challenger need to be respected too. Willie Mullins and Paul Nicholls haven't had a great week so far but this could be the turning point - Cristal Bonus has the familiar Walsh / Nicholls partnership and is a decent price - while Sir Des Champs is defending an unbeaten record for Davey Russell and Willlie Mullins. It will be close but I will plump for Peddlers Cross by a short head!
The Pertemps Hurdle is a 24 runner LOTTERY - so many of the big runner fields at Cheltenham are won by something with a big price and off a decent mark. I could make a case for pretty much all of these and spend all day justifying my selections but I won't - I will give you two that will hopefully make the frame. The first is Cape Tribulation, who has the same jockey & trainer combination as Cotton Mill who was tanking along in the Neptune Investment yesterday, before bizarrely throwing Denis O'Regan off coming over 2 out. He has somewhat of a patchy record at Cheltenham but his recent forms stacks up and is a big 20/1 e/w value. The second horse to note is Buena Vista - who does know how to win around Prestbury Park with 2 wins from 20 runs. Currently sitting 2nd in the betting at best priced 10/1, I hear you ask why, well already quite far down the weights Buena Vista will has 10lb claimer Thomas Bellamy on his back meaning he has 9st 13lb much less than the other 23 runners. As I've said already this is a Lottery so don't waste too much on this race!
The Ryanair Chase and the World Hurdle are the show piece events of Thursday at Cheltenham and they are proving to be tricky ones to pick the winner for. The 2.40 seems to be the most competitive and the most open in terms of betting, James Nesbitt's horse Riverside Theatre is currently top of the betting best priced at 5/1. I think this price will be shorter come the off as it combines yesterdays 81/1 treble winning combo of Geraghty & Henderson, the latter who actually had a 4 winners on the card!! No doubt Henderson has his stables in awesome form but I am going to oppose this favourite and go for some e/w value. Captain Chris & Alberta's Run form my two picks for this race. Alberta's Run is the two time champion of the Ryanair Chase having won this race in 2010 and 2011 - he is far too big a price at 10/1 for me and will be a real danger to the field, with Champion Jockey Tony McCoy in the saddle he will be close come the finish. The other bit of each way support is for Captain Chris who was 14/1 first thing this morning - now as short as 10/1. Phillip Hobbs has not had the best of weeks but he does fancy the Captain to show up on the day and Captain Chris is 2/4 around Cheltenham. The rest of the field all demand respect and Somersby rarely runs a bad race and fails to make the top 2!!
The last race to be reviewed is the World Hurdle and the global interest in this horse race will be amazing - Big Bucks is aiming for his 16th straight win and his 7th from 8 starts at Cheltenham. Ruby Walsh as ever will be in the saddle and albeit a fall this horse should not be beaten by any of the field. He is world class and has proven again and again that he is the best Hurdler ever to have graced the green and pleasant lands of England. With the way the other odds on favourites have cost the punters this week I think he may drift in the betting and the second favourite Oscar Whiskey will attract a lot of support. The leading trainer and jockey combination for the meeting features and if the tactics of the race unfold in Oscars favour I fear Big Bucks could get beat. Big Bucks is not a front runner and likes to stalk something and come over the last cruising - most thought that Celestial Halo would run in this to provide that bit of cover - but Nicholls opted not to and is anticipating Dynaste to go off like the clappers and try to win the race, just like in January. If this race plan does not unfold and Big Bucks is left up front you can bet that Oscar Whiskey will be on his tail and will try to nick it coming off the pace.
It promises to be an interesting one and either result will make the headlines of the papers tomorrow morning. I am going to risk it for a biscuit and go with Oscar Whiskey 5/1 to beat Big Buck, with a cover on the straight forecast BB to bt OW.
Advised:
1.30 - Peddlers Cross
2.40 - Captain Chris
Singles and e/w Double
1.30 - Cristal Bonus
2.05 - Cape Tribulation
2.40 - Alberta's Run
3.20 - Oscar Whiskey
Singles and Yankee e/w
Good luck as ever and I hope you get some winnings to beat the bookies with on Gold Cup Friday!! I'll leave you with a lovely quote from Churchill which I thought was quite apt going into Day 3
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.

1 day and counting to the off.......
The Betdaq Cheltenham Preview at Kempton Park last Wednesday was well attended and I speak for all attendee’s when I say the panel were frank with their opinions and provided us with some great hints for the upcoming festival. I will say that the panel didn’t really stray from the obvious with their picks for the Big 12 races of Cheltenham – with most selections being close to even money. This is either very cowardly or they think that for once the bookies have got it spot on and priced the best horse at the head of the market accordingly.
They had opinions on a lot of horses but I have tried to summarise these into a coherent format - you will see the majority of tips for the big races below – the panel were also asked for a Nap of the week:
Tuesday
Supreme Novices – only 2 from 18 favourites have won this. Simonsig will go for the Neptune
BP – Vulcanite, Cinders & Ashes
PB – Vulcanite, Steps to Freedom
AT – Cinders & Ashes, Montbazon
PW – Darlan*
All the panel do not fear Darlan apart from the Tipster.
The Arkle – 1 from 10 favourites in the last decade have won The Arkle
BP – Sprinter Sacre, Sprinter Sacre & Cue Card S/fc
PB - Sprinter Sacre,
AT - Sprinter Sacre
PW - Sprinter Sacre
Al Ferof has no chance as too much of a stayer not enough pace.
Peddlers Cross will not run in this.
Champion Hurdle
BP – Hurricane Fly, Oscars Well – S/fc
PB - Hurricane Fly
AT - Binocular
PW - Hurricane Fly
1st day tips
AT – Giant bolster, Quantativeasing, Sizing Australia
NH - Triolo D’alene
BP – Tullamore Dew, Balthazar King, Alasi
Wednesday
Neptune – 1 from 10 favourites have won this in the last decade & NH has not had a winner or a place from 24 runners in this race!!
BP – Simonsig, Cotton Mill e/w
PB - Simonsig
AT - Battonier
Boston Bob will run in the Albert Bartlett
Mount Benbulben will run in the Albert Bartlett
RSA Chase – 5 from 10 favourites have won this race – An Irish horse has won the last 5.
BP – Bog Warrior (if ground is good)
PB – Grand Crus (will need softish ground)
AT –Invictus, First Lieutenant (if ground is good)
PW - Invictus
Queen Mother Chase – 10 from 11 defending champions have gone on to lose.
BP - Sizing Europe
PB - Sizing Europe
AT - Sizing Europe
Somersby will run in the Ryanair Chase
I’msingingtheblues is far to big a price at 66/1
All agreed this is the BANKER of the meet.
Champion Bumper – the panel decided that the winner will from Britain as all the Irish horses have been running on softish ground.
BP - Royal Guardsman
PW – Royal Guardsman
New Year’s Eve – Barry Geraghty to ride – his choice
Thursday
Ryanair Chase – Not one Irish owned horse has ever won this race – Only one favourite ever has won!
BP – Riverside Theatre, Captain Chris
AT – Somersby
PW – Alberta’s Run
World Hurdle – Most popular bet is Big Bucks to bt Oscar Whiskey Straight forecast which pays approx. 7/4
BP – Big Bucks, Voler la Vedette e/w @ 12/1
PB – Oscar Whiskey
AT – Big Bucks
PW – Big Bucks
3rd day tips
Jewson Novices
PW – Champion Court

Albert Bartlett
BP – Rocky Creek
PB – Boston Bob, Sivola de Sivola

BP – Long Run, Synchronised, Weird Al e/w
PB – Long Run
AT – Midnight Chase
PW – Long Run & Weird Al e/w
No-one was keen on Kauto Star and the impression was that he wouldn’t make the festival – however, all seems to have changed and Paul Nicholls is set to take him to Cheltenham.

Brendan Powell Snr - Long Run & Tullamore Dew

Some words from Ruby on his rides this week

6 days and counting to the off.......
Today we will be looking at two other races for the first day at Cheltenham and there is another skinny one in the frame as 'Hurricane Fly' is another odds on shot favourite for the Champion Hurdle and it is difficult to see anything beating him. The bookies will be crying or laughing all the way to the bank depending on the results of 'Hurricane Fly' & yesterdays selection 'Sprinter Sacre'. Most bookies are offering special double prices but I have spotted some value with Paddy Power who are 10/11 for each selection but these prices will not be around on the day. The benefit of betting with Paddy Power is that they offer best odd's guaranteed - so if the price of the horses drift you will get the best odd's.
I can't remember an opening day of a festival when two odd's shots came in - but almost every pundit and tipster have had these two picks pencilled in for weeks. I am sure the bookies will be praying these two get beat but I think its about time the punters had some opening day luck.
Advised:
Hurricane Fly - 10/11
Double with Sprinter Sacre both at 10/11 - £10 pays £36.45
The final race I have a selection for on the Tuesday of Cheltenham is in the Cross Country Chase and I think there will be no surprises when I say 'Sizing Australia' has a real chance in this. Everyone I know that loves racing, knows how unpredictable the Cross Country Course is at Cheltenham - we only need to look back to the Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase on the 9th December when the majority of the field took the wrong course. Most shrewd punters will not touch this race with a barge pole but I really like how 'Sizing Australia' has shaped from his last few runs and can see him rediscovering the form that saw him win at Cheltenham last year. Plus I like to think I will be flush after the first couple of races!!
Taking the wrong course cost 'Scotsirish' his chance of victory back in December and that see him installed as the bookies 5/2 favourite. 'Sizing Australia' is currently best price 5/1 (widely available) and I think this is good value - don't get me wrong there are plenty of other horses worth mentioning and due respect - Enda Bolger's 'Garde Champetre' has finished in the first two at Cheltenham on no fewer than 10 occasions!! 'Chamirey' won the fiasco of a race back in December and must be credited - And anything that Willie Mullins sends to Cheltenham has half a chance....he could line up with three for this renewal. However, I have faith in Henry de Bromhead who seems to have his stable firing for Cheltenham every year and his two notable runners of the meet must surely go very close (Sizing Europe & Australia).
Advised:
Sizing Australia - 5/1 - Paddy Power
Advised multiple bet - £1 win Yankee returns £572:
Sprinter Sacre - 10/11
Hurricane Fly - 10/11
Sizing Australia - 5/1
Cinders & Ashes - 8/1
Already advised NonRunnerNoBet:
Cinders & Ashes - 8/1 widely available
Pearl Swan - 20/1 Victor Chandler
Sprinter Sacre to be Al Ferof S/fc
Please take advantage of the free bets available before and throughout the festival - I have added new links to the blog today:

8 days to go til Cheltenham starts..........
........with the biggest week in jumps racing fast approaching - The Punters Prerogative will be running the tipping blog over the next 7 days. We plan to run a news column which will mainly focus on the star attraction 'Kauto Star' and his fight to make the line up for the Gold Cup.
The Punters Prerogative will have ante post tips for runners at the festival - but more importantly some nice sign up bonuses for new customers to betting sites.
So make sure you check back on a daily basis to keep informed of the best value bets for Cheltenham!
